Frasier Island Eurong Beach Resort
Eurong Beach Resort - East Fraser Island
Visitors to Fraser Island generally come with their own 4WD, rent a 4WD or take part in an organised guided tour.
As all road and tracks on Fraser Island are sand tracks and there is not hardened surface road anywhere on the island, there is no other mode of transport (besides walking).

Most people take 3 to 5 days to explore Fraser Island but, in an era where everyone is in a hurry and tourists want to "do" Australia in 3 weeks, a lot of people opt for a one day guided tour as well.

For those staying longer Fraser Island offers free camping along most of the eastern beach, only a $4.50 per person National Park Levy per person is payable. There are also two private campground with amenities available and several National Park Campgrounds with varying levels of amenities. Moving away from camping, there are private holiday homes available at several locations on Fraser Island, all on the east coast. Also several larger accommodations ranging from small complexes consisting of a couple of cabins or rooms and apartments, right up the Eurong Beach Resort on the east coast and Kingfisher Bay Resort on the west coast, are available.

Petrol and basic shopping facilities are also available at several spots on Fraser Island.

To get on and off the Island, barges operate from Inskip Point, north of Rainbow Beach, to Hook Point. There are also barges operating from River Heads (just out of Hervey Bay) to Wanggoolba Creek and Kingfisher Bay Resort and another one from Hervey Bay to Moon Point. This last one is mainly used by the 4WD coaches as the track in the area at Moon Point are often in a bad shape.

For visitors to Kingfisher Bay Resort and others to Fraser Island who don't bring a 4WD with them, a fast catamaran shuttles several times per day between Hervey Bay and Kingfisher Bay Resort.

An alternative is being offered by plane. Departing from Hervey bay (Fraser Coast Airport), there are several landing places on Fraser Island. Mainly the beach in front of Eurong Beach Resort, a landing strip at Orchid Beach and one at Dilli village. Also helicopter transfers are possible and the are dedicated landing spots at Kingfisher Bay Resort and Happy Valley.

Bringing a 4WD vehicle to Fraser Island requires a National Park Vehicle access Permit (at the moment these are $34.40 and valid for 28 days).

For those who can't do without our modern means of communication: mobile phones do work from all major settlements on Fraser Island and wireless internet is available from Kingfisher Bay Resort, which also has two public internet terminals available.
